Interested in learning how to create MIZUHIKI (Japanese paper cords) embellishments? This ancient craft originated over 1500 years ago during the Asuka Era,(late 500’s) as a way to embellish gifts. Initially, only red and white cords were used, but today, dozens of different colors and shades, along with textures are available. The primary purpose for this craft today, however, is still to enhance and decorate gifts. The Japanese symbolism of mizuhiki is “musubi” (結び) or “tying together” – a way to connect with the person receiving the gift.
